It has been a long time since I have laid my hands on a "respectable" desktop platform.
More than 5 years.

The last Desktop I've built is a Pentium 4 (478) 1.8Ghz with only 256MB DDR SDRAM and a 40GB Hard drive using GeForce 256 DDR (From old Desktop) for my brother 3 years back.

My new desktop specifications are as below:

I have further plans with this system.
The cooling capacity easily allows overclocking over 3Ghz without much heat related issues with the CPU however this would be limited to the RAM and CHIPSET cooling capacity and their capabilities. In order to push further, I am required to change the RAM and allow implement active cooling on my Northbridge chipset (Either by using Swiftech Waterblock or normal fan heatsink cooler)

Currently I am running the graphic processing unit at 500Mhz Core, 733Mhz Memory.

This graphic processing unit will retire when the nVidia Geforce 8000 series is affordable enough.

There is also a slim change I may run ATi R600 type processing units on Crossfire mode should they be affordable and has performance comparable if not greater than that of their nVidia counterparts.

For now, we shall see.

My laptop's life has finally reached the end of th cycle. It lasts a rediculous 15 min now. I thought that it might have been the new hard drive i installed that consumed the power however, upon close inspection it turned out that the new drive only consum 0.42A compared to 0.7 on the old 30GB hard drive by Toshiba.

This basically mean that I will have to spend another 200 dollars for the battrey to make my notebook useful again. Shall I forsake the notebook that serve me so well for the past 4 years plus? Or shall I just invest on an iMac with Intel Duo Core processor?

I think I should ask my wallet.

My wallet says: "Not enough minerals for any of those actions".

Life is sad especially with things like this happening all at once.

For the first time in my life I tuned down the volume of my Sony MD player to 5/30 in my office. This is just great. I didn't even notice the phone ringing or my boss come in.
fyi: i usually listen at 20-22/30 on my Sony MDR EX51/XL71 and its darn boomy~

Compared to Sony MDR-EX 51 / XL 71 series, the highs and the mids are there. Unlike sony's this phone is not bias towards the lows and not all that boomy like the EX and XL sony series. Unlike the EX/XL series, there isn't any artifact (lows) on each piano key pressed.

Finally finished my basic training. Life is certainly more stressed after training. I only wish I can get the stupid 6 month course for the following reason.

1. Free food provided in training
2. Stay in camp so you no need to worry about transport and transport fee
3. Errors are forgivable.

However the only drawback is
- no beautiful girls in camp (what else do you expect?)

now with this crap, I have finally updated my blog after 2 months of MIA but this isn't AWOL.

last thing - i agree that humans are pathetic.

1. Illegal Debit Card deduction
2. PSP rom corruption due to "dirty" UMD - update from UMD until hang like this
3. Bought a water bottle which is leaking

Here's more that happen within 7 days
1. DVD writer power adaptor burnt
2. Handphone / SIM card malfunction multiple times (2 times when talking to guard commander when on duty)
and more but I can't think anymore.

My mind is corrupted, examinations coming up this week and my spirts are low.

This weekend is really F-ed.

Examinations are coming our way and worse still, its on a Saturday! Can't be help I guess. Lets do our best and pass the mid term examination but before that, we have to pass our IPPT.. (and some of us are having problems handling firearms)

We each have a different weakness and I guess we had to try and cover our own ass during these two years of national service.

I'm looking forward to my mess food (*PUI*)

Anyway the firing range in Training Command really sucks compared to that indoor air conditioned range in Security Command at Toa Payoh. Even the arms are better.. Well guess we all know the standards in Tracom.

Just finish a first aid test this week. I never know they had such high tech dummies to train SCDF personenl. Imagine a dummy that can report how hard and how much air you blow into the lungs and how much pressure you apply during CPR.. I had to retake the test once to pass with 98% accuracy (guess the 2% because i applied too much pressure once LOL the bar goes red i notice..)

and oh yeah.. SCDF has this "Musical CPR" session to help train their personnel!

Now thats true for our field instructor. We don't blame him afterall his vision is quite true "why work so hard in National Service when you pay is so high already?" Do what you can and don't do what you can't. Don't try.. for you know you will fail.

Its about time to report back to camp. I feel so sickening sian. Things will never get better for us until the end of the physical training phase.

Not to mention, my marching is fucked up. The steps are pathetically small (Gosh - fuck it).
The FI told me to put in double the effort last week when we walk out - I really really wanted to reply that I had already put in tripple the effort! This is really pathetic. They're suppose to follow my steps! I'm the right marker darn it!

If I recover from my P.A.D. (Police Academy Disease - Police variant of Tekong Disease ), I'll make sure I be the timer!

Money Expenditure

After shopping for all the required things, I really find that I spend slightly more than $50 for all the things required which includes polo t-shirt (white - freaking easy to get dirty) and some white shirt. Why must it be white? Doesn't army use grey? Assholes... They want us to wash like hell. Now I'm going downstairs to get those wash pre-treatment agent (like O2 vanish gel or something). And maybe plasters and panadols.

My next book out may be next weekend saturday noon to afternoon. See you people then (hopefully). And I had to fuking ask for permission to talior make the trouses for myself (due to some government piece of shit).

The Driving Range Challenge

Host a driving range competition that awards $10,000 (or whatever amount) to the first golfer who can hit the target on first stroke.

Catch:
The target is actually a disguised wasp hive. The golfer would be requested to collect his own ball to claim the prize.
(It was claimed that the target hole was coated with a special paint that will change colour of ball under certain wavelength of the light - say UV...)

Radiation can be classified into two categories (according to their power).
1. Ionizing radiation
2. Non-ionizing radiation

Ionizing radiations are radiation strong enough to displace the electrons around the atoms. While non-ionizing radiation aren’t.

Examples of ionizing radiation sources are X-Ray, Gama Radiation.
Examples of non-ionizing radiation sources are Radio radiation such as those with hand phone or two-way radios (because they are so weak…) and if you must know, Light (electromagnetic radiation) is non-ionizing radiation.

Do you know?
Mobile phone receiving and transmitting stations are located on roof tops of HDB flats and they are generate powerful electromagnetic wave. But they are designed in such a way that the radiation is spreading sideways like a beacon thus not affecting those living below.

Went to play pool today in the morning and watch the movie in the afternoon. Its a really nice show.

The show reminds me of Dr. Forday - the jokes are his kind of jokes. It may be lame but its high standard lame. This show gets a MUST WATCH rating form me if you ask but depending on who you are. Because I do think that some of you wouldn't like it very much.

Finished the movie and proceed to dinner. Ramen. Volcano. One with chilli topped on. Simulating volcano eruption and lava flow! Sugoi! Its nice but not as hot as firey supreme. Thank god for that (if not, i really think that everywhere I go and when I order hot stuff or the chef dun like me). Nevertheless its expensive.

I'm not amazed by this but actually rather disappointed Singaporeans we are and yet Singaporeans we do not serve. It is rather embarrassing to see such situations. Embarrassing as in I am a Singaporean.

You notice that salesman serve light skin Caucasians as their first priority and with a complete different attitude. Completely different from how they will serve you. I’m rather disappointed partially because they lack the knowledge of who is more superior; white or black. Yes, you may think that whites seem to be superior but in fact they are less resistant to skin cancer than black. We as darker skin people (at least darker than whites) must be proud of ourselves! We are of a more advance sub-species. In this world of evolution, only the more advance survive.

I may seem like a racist but well I must make myself clear. This is based on science, not god.

Animals and Animal Lovers
Another disappointing incident – (from a friend’s father)
If you love animals, do you truly want to lock them up? And worse – for display and profit purposes?

This incident occurs at night safari (Singapore zoo). The night safari is the only safari of its type in Asia. And it is because of that, tourist flood in. As most of us know, the lighting condition in the safari is so bad to the extend that photography is impossible without artificial lighting (flash light).

The incident happens as follows – Photographer took a picture using flash in the safari. Tourist eyes photographer madly (impression given – animal lovers wannabie).

When you lock up the animals, they suffer. And since you want to make them suffer, why stop the process by acting animal lovers or nature conservationist?

If you love them? - Why lock them up?
If you lock them? - Why ACT YOU HAVEN'T?

Get my point clear - for both cases, its not the forigners I hate. Especially for customer service cases, its the locals I hate.

While everyone is writting articles of good vs evil and god vs devil, I am proud to bring you an article on Radiation.

Radioactivity, radiation – Just what does it mean when you say something produces radiation or is radioactive? Does it mean that it kills because it’s a carcinogen? Why do people avoid getting radiation exposure as much as possible?

Yes, there are various forms of radiation. Radiation can be defined as “the energy radiated or transmitted in the form of rays, waves, or particles” or “a stream of particles or electromagnetic waves that is emitted by the atoms and molecules of a radioactive substance as a result of nuclear decay”. Which ever it may be apparently there are a lot of misconception about radioactivity and radiation among my friends.

Your guess may be as good as mine. Afraid of the slightest radiation produced as a result of the process of natural decay of some unstable elements or maybe the fear is induced by the constant input from your lecturers about how radiation can cause cancer.

Radiation source from nuclear decay are of main concern. They are present everywhere; from hospitals to schools laboratory to airport and at home (For some even when using document scanners). Exposures to nuclear radiation nowadays are common sights in our daily lives.

People working in “hot zones” get paid up to two thousand dollars a week in the United States. Why? They risk permanent sterilization and even death.

When doing a self reflection I've finally come across a few important points:

Games - I lost. No not due to luck. This is what my capablilties are, this is the truth. My max is when I begin. My min is when I stop. I do appreciate if you let me say its due to luck so I can be happy spending money for games.
Concentration - No, I have them not. Focus I cannot. Not even for games or things I enjoy.
Attitude - Yes I have them, although I should not be proud that I do.
Seriousness - No, I'm always lacking one. Even at critical times.
Control - No, I don't. For I may not even have the ability to reach that level.

Conclusion : I've finally come to realization that I am a looser.

I'm recently working on a temp job at a town council in sembawang, and the job is basically sorting out documents and scanning them using a canon document scanner (its a fast but rough scanner.. if your document is very fragile it will give you the feeling of tearing your document apart inside the scanner..)

I came across several files of applications which date from 1980s to recent 2005. The point is - there is this place "affix passport size photo" and guess how the old 1980s are done?
YES! Glue...
NICE perfectly glued in...
and now, guess what the new generations are doing?
Oh you don't believe this!
ITS ALL STALPED AROUND!
and staple size is used inappropriately!
Imagine using a large staple for only 2 pieces of paper!!
Gave us a hard time getting rid of those staples!

SO? BE NICE! USE GLUE FOR YOU APPLICATIONS!

The staples give the scanner a hard time by jamming up the papers... Now an automatic scanner become a manual scanner.

New Networking Solutions

Apprantly current G type networks are stepping stones to a new network standards. Not to mention new chip being announced by intel yesterday with a range of approximately up to 50 km which will be introduce into market in 2 years' time. So to those who are buying a new wireless networking solution, I suggest... you wait.

Up comming wireless networking standard 802.11n (N standard network)
802.11n is an upcoming industry standard for high-speed Wi-Fi networking. 802.11n is designed to replace the 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g Wi-Fi standards for local area networking.

802.11n will work by utilizing multiple wireless antennas in tandem to transmit and receive data.

The associated term "MIMO" (Multiple Input, Multiple Output) refers to the ability of 802.11n (and other similar technologies) to coordinate multiple simultaenous radio signals. MIMO increases both the range and throughput of a wireless network.

An additional technique employed by 802.11n involves increasing the channel bandwidth.

These are the film I had or am using right now. Of these, only NPS 160, Portra 400VC, Superia 1600 and T-Max P3200 are print negative films. The rest are positive slide films.

Many may ask why so many different kinds of film.They are generally divided into 2 types

Print - Negative
Slide - Positive

Print Negative are the ones we use normally. Fujifilm Superia 100/200/400/800/1600 are all print films. They form a negative colour image on the film once exposed. These films can be easily found in supermarkets and shops. These can be processed and printed in a common minilab (C41 processing).

Slide films are not commonly used neither is it commonly avaliable. They're generally more expensive per roll and provide higher contrast, saturation and resolution. They can be identified by the "Chrome" on their packaging name. Slide films also have lower exposure latitude meaning they are more sensitive to errors. These requires E-6 or similiar process. Printing and processing cost are approximately 2 times higher than negative print films.

Slide films are the one I commonly use because they provide way higher resolution than normal print negative films. What's my favourite? FujiChrome Provia 100F so far.. I've been wanting to try out Velvia 50 and 100F also Astia 100F too.

Wait till I get a scanner so I can spam the pictures.

It simply means: "The Unseen Truth".
The truth is usually more complex than it seems. Sometimes hidden from view or simply ignored. (This applies to me too)

Double Curse

Learn't a lesson today, never think that curse will cancel out each other. You will be proven wrong.

I was at McRitchie this morning till afternoon with a reason. Trapped. Unable to get out. With bees following the trail of my comarades who apprantly used an insect repellant that attract the bees. Nothing is worse than having the water cooler taken over by bees when we finally reached the ranger station which we couldn't find earlier. Apprantly hidden by some bushes. Yet big circles we went, trying to find our way out of McRitchie. Came to a dead end at the old rifle range headed back.. and found that we are travelling in circles. The curse! Yes! It is active. I can feel it. And after hours of walking we finally reached the country club, yet! we were unable to find an exit. Called the taxi we had and found that the exit is just right in front.

The great this is..
The suspension bridge is great.
The tortise is great.
The monkeys are angry.
The bees are great (in numbers).

Thinking now, it may be because my comarades saved a tortise and so the curse has been dispelled by the tortise and get out we were able to.

Going to cemetery at midnight will add more curse to your current effective curse.

Badminton

Went for badminton today but do not have my chance to use one of my ultimate attack "tian wai fei xian". I feel so sad.

Anyway got skin tearing on my left hand after proding balls into holes with wooden sticks (This sentence is a test to determine how you think).

It appears my friends are starting to recieve gay letters well time to buck up! Pull ups - target 10! (I strongly doubt I can make it).

Finally, I discovered a new curse spell that only I can use today. Effectiveness is very high. At the very least, its found to be strongly effective on 2 people.

The pictures from DnD nite is almost ready for spam. Just recieved them from the lab and going through them.
Will update later when finish editing some of the better pictures.

Please don't expect too much from me for my standards and potentials are much too pro to be used at full strength.

How many pictures?
(Clue: I usually spend 1 roll (36 exposures) and have 1 or 2 really nice shots)

All shots are well focused except around 2 (well its dark in there what do you expect?)
After primary selection, some 101 shots come out well. Not all 185 shots are selected of course.

Expect to see less than 30 pictures after my final rounds of selection.

In the meantime, stay tuned.
I'm practically broke due overspending. Digitalizing the negatives cost a staggering hell out of me.
If you want to print the pictures, let me know I will print them from the negatives at the lab (will be cheaper if lots of people order).

The details in the dark areas are preserved as much as possible on the original negatives as low contrast negative protrait films are used during the DnD.

Finally the pictures below are just apitizers. They aren't edited in any form... yet.

Photo Ordering / Avalibility

The film are being processed while it'll surely cost me alot of お金. I've requested scans which are costing a staggering extra 94.5 ;_;

I'm not sure of the details yet. But the pricing for photo printing depending on the amount ordered for prints and size ordered.

The few rolls I took should be ready by Tuesday. But I will most probably require sometime to do extra digital enhancement for some pictures. Especially those with demonish eye. Imagine a lovely cat being turned into a creature from hell.

Nevertheless, that was some great self modeling out there except I probably should have brought another flash and my tripod packed into a hard shell case to make it like Wedding Photography ^^

Aftermath's Mayhem

I doubt anyone will be going for any activities after yesterday's late night Dance & Dinner.

And oh, where is the Dance? There is no dance in the dance and dinner night? What the heck. spent 60 dollars and not to see people dancing. Wasted.

I shall be posting my photos in weeks. Won't be so early. They probably will require editing as this is my first time trying out these films (Kodak Portra 400VC and Fujifilm NPS). Unfortunately, for those who want quality printed ones would have to get your wallets out as its too expensive to print those.
Most probably i'll be posting selected ones only.

The external presentation in the morning yesterday didn't went out quite well after what we did to our slides from Dr Phang's recommandation. I think she wasn't happy for us to exceed our time limit as she kept on using her hand to give us "Time out signal" behind the external examiner.

Black Affinity

Was at bukit timah playing pool with friends and found that I have great affinity towards black balls. So much that i hit the ball in one direction, it will curve towards the black and cause the black to went in first.
This also shows that if i somehow got subdue the black affinity effect until the last ball, i would have won.

Also, apprantly I am a coach. People came and ask me questions on the game rules. (Maybe I'm too good at hitting indirect balls - Bwahahaha!)
To prepare for the next time, i shall read and memorise all the rules of the game.
If only this is golf then i can earn money by being a coach.
